The Bed Night Bank by Travel for Impact
One of the local projects we as Bush Ways are supporting is the Bed Night Bank initiated by one of our partners #TravelforImpact and Safari Destinations – Botswana & Zimbabwe. Travel for Impact is a social enterprise that links the travel industry with local community projects in Northern Botswana. Travel for Impact aims to bridge the gap between the tourism sector and civil society, allowing visitors and tourism companies to give back to the communities which host them. This is responsible tourism.
The Bed Night Bank provides a platform for tourism industry partners to raise funds in support of the local Maun community with a shared vision. Bed Night Bank supporters will donate a number of Bed Nights to Safari Destinations which are managed on behalf of Travel for Impact. This means that Travel for Impact receives the full amount paid for those Bed Nights.
In 2017 the bed night bank raised $35000 and 2018 $32000 by selling nights at lodges in Botswana that were donated by the different operators here to Safari Destinations. The money that was raised is going to be used in different projects like training and trauma counselling and one of the most important projects the new building for Bana Ba Letsatsi. Bana Ba Letsatsi operates a rehabilitation centre that offers a place of safety for orphans and vulnerable children registered with them. From this centre they provide ongoing support in the form of counselling, education, skills training, daily meals, sports, clothes, transport, medical attention, hygiene facilities and many other services and activities.
Bush Ways Lodges and therefore the Bush Ways Foundation donated 12 bed nights (6 rooms) for the success of the bed night bank in 2017 and donated 16 bed nights (8 rooms) for 2018.
Most money of the fund raising is going towards Bana Ba Letsatsi to build a new structure for the kids, without parents or parents that cannot provide a proper home for their kids.
Bush Ways donated another 16 bed nights (8 rooms) all over our lodges #ChobeElephantCamp in the Chobe area, #SangoSafariCamp and #KhwaiGuestHouse in the Khwai/Moremi area and also at #BotetiRiverCamp in Khumaga, the Makgadikgadi area.
The support of the local communities is a big part of Bush Ways Foundation’s passion.
